XIME Kochi - Corona Update
The Institute had suspended classes on March 10th as per Kerala government directive and in view of the prevailing circumstances continues to remain closed, working in tandem with AICTE and government directives.
Some students who
haven’t been able to proceed home due to the travel uncertainty in
North India, are in the hostel with wardens for company, a functional cafeteria
and some minimal support staff for cleaning and maintenance.
Faculty and students
however continue to remain engaged with online classes, tests and assignments;
thanks to broadband, Zoom meeting solutions and our learning management system
called Moodle. The quick adoption to an alternate mode for learning is a
testament to XIME’s values of innovation and openness to ideas.
Kerala like the rest
of the country remains under lockdown. As of date the cases reported in Kerala
are much higher compared to the rest of the country and the story behind this
is that Kerala has the highest no of tests conducted as on 24th
March 2020 - 137 tests per million citizens compared to the next ranked state
Karnataka, with 24 tests per million citizens. For more details read this IndiaSpend report.
As over 85 % of our students are from outside Kerala, it is important to highlight the robustness of our public health system. Kerala ranks high on
the Human Development Index, even comparable to some western European
countries. The per capita health expenditure is also the highest in the country
and it is no surprise that Kerala ranks as the number one state in the Niti Aayog HealthIndex. Again no surprises,
that Kerala is the leading state to create public awareness, urgency and
tighten restrictions to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 disease. The
confidence and the maturity of the public health system has been demonstrated
in its proactiveness in tracing, tracking, testing and treating the disease.
As the lockdown
continues wish all students, faculty and stakeholders to continue to stay safe,
stay protected and stay observant as the world continues to fight the pandemic.
