A talk by Mr. P. Viswa Nathan on South East Asia and India

On 27th of July we had a renowned journalist, Mr. P. Viswa Nathan, former editor-in-chief of the Hongkong Standard, who is credited with being the first journalist from Kerala to become the editor of a foreign English newspaper.

Born in Alappuzha, Kerala, he moved to Hong Kong in 1965 and joined the Far Eastern Review before eventually moving on to Hongkong Standard and was its editor in chief for consecutive 6 years from 1974. He has authored the book - HONG KONG , THE TURBULENT TIMES - WILL THE SOUTH WIND PREVAIL OVER NORTH WIND ?

Though his personal journey stands as a testament to the power of resilience, unwavering passion, and an unyielding commitment to his dreams, he spoke on the topic that was closest to his professional life. His talk was on the evolution and evolving nature of relations between the South East Asian nations and India, given the ever - changing economic and political relations, spanning centuries. The talk was an eye opener for the students who were keen to hear his opinion on how these relations could be altered for the better.
